3.Program Features

“Business Administration” in Tianjin University has been approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to set up as a first level discipline doctoral program. It is a key discipline in Tianjin, under which is the technical economy and management as key discipline in Tianjin and even around the country.

Tianjin University is one of the first in China to carry out the research of Business Administration. In 1986, it was approved by Academic Degrees Committee of State Council to establish the professional master degree of Technical Economy. In 1991, Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the first batch of MBA (MBA) degree. In 1998, it was approved by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to set up Accounting professional master's degree. In 2000, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of State Council to establish Technical Economy and Management doctoral program. In 2002, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of State Council to set up the first batch of experimental unit to train senior management of ExecutiveMaster of Business Administration (EMBA) degree, and at the same year professional Master of Tourism Management was approved; In 2005 it was approved the first level discipline doctoral program by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Business Administration is the first construction site of national university specialty, and cooperates with MOTO (China) Electronics Co., Ltd. and a number of enterprises and institutions to build “Business Administration Innovation Base”.

The program boasts 1 famous teacher of national level and 3 New Century Talent of Ministry of Education. Someone of them hold important positions at academic organizations or periodicals. In 2011, two teachers were selected as top ten popular Chinese MBA tutors by China MBA Consortium. In 2011 Financial Management degree program QP (QP) passed the certification of Hong Kong Society of Accountants. The main feature of Business Administration program is closely connected with China's reform and development and researching major theoretical and practical issues in the field of Business Administration. For overtwenty years, we have trained a group of leaders and backbone for the top 500 and large and medium state-owned enterprises. Current president of China Mobile is the distinguished graduate representative of MBA program of Tianjin University.

Business Management direction focuses on the improvement of international enterprise management capabilities of students, as well as information technology, computer and network management application capabilities; Accounting direction emphasizes integration of international standards into training system with Chinese characteristics; Tourism Management direction attaches great importance to apply latest research of modern management theory into tourism planning, management of scenic spots, tourism resources utilization and protection, eco-tourism and other issues; Technical Economy direction is based on theory of philosophy, economics, science, management science, engineering science, information and system science, etc, Mathematics and computer are taking as its analytical tools, to study and solve the evaluation and decision making problems in knowledge economy, technology management, project investment, technological innovation, resource development and utilization, engineering financial analysis, corporate finance, and banking and insurance system project; Operations Management direction aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents of senior management who can apply systematic management ideas and methods, quantitative models and information technology to conduct business and socio-economic activities.

4.Major Scientific Projects and Achievements for the Past Years

In the past five years, we are awarded 1 second prize of National Awards for Progress in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education, 1 second prizeand 1 third prize of Province Departmental Level Awards for Progress in Science and Technology, 10 Tianjin Outstanding Achievements in Social Science (including 1 first prize and 5 second prize). For recent three years, we have undertaken 66 scientific research projects and other vertical projects of National Key Technology Research and Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Foundation of China with (real total funding of 6,525,800yuan) real latitudinal funding of 13,920,000yuan; The number of papers indexed in SCI / SSCI / EI is 73. One doctoral thesis won the 2008 national 100 excellent papers and another was selected as a “China 100 Most Influential thesis in 2008”. We hosted two rounds of “Marketing Management Teacher Training” and “International Symposium of Marketing Science Applications”, as well as “Cross-strait Exchanges in Business Administration Camp” of Ministry of Education; A number of teachers have done research and teaching work at Cambridge (UK). Our achievement “Centralized Management System Oil Enterprise Funds” won “National Awards nominations for Progress in Science and Technology” by the Ministry of Education. In 2012 we are approved the “Green Campus Construction and Development and Demonstration of Management Key Technology” of “Twelfth Five-Year" National Science and Technology Support Program”, with the total budget of 3 million. A case won the second session of the one hundred outstanding teaching cases of National MBA Education Steering Committee.

5.The Enrollment for Past Years

The program candidates mainly come from graduates of the year and in-service staff of Institutions of higher learning all over the country. The ratio of applications to the admissions is about 5:1.

6.Main Courses and Thesis Requirements During Graduate Study

Major courses during graduate study: Fundamentals of Management Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Management Economics, Paradigms and Methods of Management Research, as well as compulsory and elective courses for specific research direction.

Students are required to, during graduate studies, lay a solid theoretical foundation of business administration, and correctly use theory and methods of business administration to solve theoretical and practical problems. Topic of thesis needs to be chose on the basis of a knowledge of latest international and domestic development in the field, clearly putting forward the ideas, and scientifically and regularly applying relevant researching methods to solve practical problems; Papers should have a rigorous theoretical analysis, and detailed practical data; Thesis writing should be provided in an orderly and rational manner with smooth writing and consistent with specifications of dissertation.
