In 1981, the first “capital construction management program” in China was established.

In 1993, the first “international construction management program” was established, and the first international construction management teaching series were published in China.

In 1999, its name was changed to “construction management” due to the discipline contents adjustment of Ministry of Education.

In 2001, 2006 and 2011, it successfully has passed the evaluation of professional evaluation committee of MOC, and got the courses certification of CIOB.

Since 2002, the construction management program of Tianjin University has ranked the first in China for many times.

In 2003, it became one of the eight model programs in Tianjin University.

In 2007, the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of construction management got the courses certification of RICS.

In 2008, it was selected into the first group of national characteristic programs in Ministry of Education”.

The goal of construction management in Tianjin University is to cultivate leaders of construction field in the context of economic globalization. Construction management is an interdisciplinary program of technology and management. Compared with engineering technology program and management program, it is a comprehensive one, and its research objective is to explore management rules of special technology. The students are cultivated to have solid foundation of management, economics, civil engineering technology, law and foreign languages. to get the basic quality training of engineers and economists to master theory, methods and means of modern management science, and to become senior comprehensive, extravert and pioneering management talents to engage in project decision and process management in domestic and overseas engineering construction field. At present, it has the right of awarding bachelor, master and doctor degrees of construction management, and right of awarding engineering master degrees of project management and construction management.

It has an outstanding faculty team composed of many famous experts and scholars, including 5 professors, 13 associate professors; most of them have doctor degree and international research experience. Professor Xueqiang Wang, the department head, is the National March-Eighth Red-Banner Pacesetter, winner of May 1st Labor Medal in Tianjin, and vice director of National High-education Construction Management Supervisory Committee; Professor Lianying Zhang is the vice group leader of National Project Management Engineering Master Teaching Coordinative Group, and has great academic and social influnece.

Construction management continues to improve overall education level with deep international cooperation, and to launch cooperation in scientific research, faculty training, joint cultivation and others with FIDIC, CIOB, RICS, PMI, CIB, World Bank and other international organizations, MIT, Stanford University in America, Purdue University in America, University of Reading in Britain, National University of Singapore, University of Hong Kong, National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan and other famous universities and colleges.

　　Employment directions are mainly international construction management, investment and cost management, real estate operation and management. Students could engage in decision, financing, design, construction, operation, consultation, supervision and other work upon graduation; among them, civil servants in Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other ministries and commissions and other regions account for 10%, staffs in financial institutions and large consultation companies covering banks, insurance and securities account for 15%, staffs in CSCES， CREC, CNNC, MCC, CCCC and other large state-owned companies account for 40%, staffs in Vanke, Gemdale and China Overseas Holding Limited and other real estate account for 20%, and staffs in foreign companies like PG and other teaching institutes account for 15%.
