The Successful Conclusion of the Third Chinese Management Scholars Camp Annual Meeting, Global Chinese Management Scholars Doctoral Students Community Forum

  On June 22, 2015,the Third Chinese Management Scholars Camp Annual Meeting, Global Chinese Management Scholars Doctoral Students Community Forum was held in CoME, TJU.

  The participants of this Forum consist of nine scholars from domestic and foreign universities, including Prof. Ming-Jer Chen, Leslie E. Grayson Professor of Business Administration, Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, Prof. He Jinyu, from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Sali Li, from Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, Prof. Liu Jun, from Renmin University of China, Prof. Lu Jiangyong, from Peking University, Prof. Liqun Wei, from Hong Kong Baptist University, Prof. Haibin Yang, from City University of Hong Kong, Prof. Yang Zhi, from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Prof. Zhang Xi, from Tianjin University; Prof. Zhang Yuli, Dean of Business School, Nankai University, Prof. Zhang Wei and Prof. Li Minqiang, Dean and Associate Dean of College of Management and Economics (CoME), Tianjin University and young teachers from ten Chinese and overseas universities, for instance, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Wuhan University, Nankai University, University of Bath and Hong Kong Baptist University, and nearly thirty PhD students.

  First, on behalf of CoME, Prof. Li Minqiang expressed a warm welcome to all participants. Then, Prof. Li introduced the predecessor of Tianjin University, Peiyang University. As the first modern university in China, the historical background of Peiyang University’s establishment and development, he particularly emphases the purpose of Peiyang University at the beginning of its foundation is "Education and Rejuvenating". Prof. Li indicates that this forum for the Chinese PhD students is a rare platform, and he hopes that all students were able to arrive in high spirits, and return with rewarding experiences.

  The first part of the Forum is "Instructors’ Experience Sharing." First, Prof. Yang Haibin introduced the "Global community of Chinese managers", which has been founded for over ten years, and the purpose of this community is to share experience with young people. Subsequently, Prof. Yang Zhi, Prof. He Jinyu and Prof. Li Sali shared their Thoughts on academics, and have their own suggestions on how to do research. The statements of professors raised a heated discussion.

  The second part of the forum is "group discussions" and "group conclusion". Eight professors and more than 20 students and teachers were divided into four discussion groups according to their research interests. Professors provided guidance to teachers and students based on the research papers they submitted and answered academic confusion to students, this lively discussion lasted for nearly three hours. After discussion, each group reported the outcomes within the group.

  The third part of the forum is “Prof. Ming-Jer Chen’s keynote speech". Professor Ming-Jer Chen shared his academic research experience with the theme of "academic entrepreneurship: the journey of dynamic competition theory".

  Prof. Ming-Jer Chen shared academic research experience and views via his unique perspective and amiable teaching methods, initiated active discussion with participates and expressed their opinion for academic research.

  Prof. Zhang Wei made a summary on Prof. Ming-Jer Chen’s keynote and expressed sincere gratitude to participants. He said that academic conference is to put good ideas together, and make collision of more superior sparks. At the same time, Prof. Zhang Wei expressed his hope to students and young teachers, who expects that they may not forget their early heart and do better academic research in the future of their academic career.
